Cardiphonia: Psalm 26

August 30, 2020

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 26

Of David.

[1] Vindicate me, O LORD, for I have walked in my integrity, and I have trusted in the LORD without wavering. [2] Prove me, O LORD, and try me; test my heart and my mind. [3] For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in your faithfulness.

[4] I do not sit with men of falsehood, nor do I consort with hypocrites. [5] I hate the assembly of evildoers, and I will not sit with the wicked.

[6] I wash my hands in innocence and go around your altar, O LORD, [7] proclaiming thanksgiving aloud, and telling all your wondrous deeds.

[8] O LORD, I love the habitation of your house and the place where your glory dwells. [9] Do not sweep my soul away with sinners, nor my life with bloodthirsty men, [10] in whose hands are evil devices, and whose right hands are full of bribes.

[11] But as for me, I shall walk in my integrity; redeem me, and be gracious to me. [12] My foot stands on level ground; in the great assembly I will bless the LORD. (ESV)

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 138

Of David.

[1] I give you thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing your praise; [2] I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word. [3] On the day I called, you answered me; my strength of soul you increased.

[4] All the kings of the earth shall give you thanks, O LORD, for they have heard the words of your mouth, [5] and they shall sing of the ways of the LORD, for great is the glory of the LORD. [6] For though the LORD is high, he regards the lowly, but the haughty he knows from afar.

[7] Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand delivers me. [8] The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands. (ESV)

To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. A Psalm. A Song.

[1] May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us, Selah [2] that your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations. [3] Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you!

[4] Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you judge the peoples with equity and guide the nations upon earth. Selah [5] Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you!

[6] The earth has yielded its increase; God, our God, shall bless us. [7] God shall bless us; let all the ends of the earth fear him!

Cardiphonia: Psalm 105:1-6, 16-22, 45b

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 105:1-6, 16-22, 45b

[1] Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name;

                        make known his deeds among the peoples!

            [2] Sing to him, sing praises to him;

                        tell of all his wondrous works!

            [3] Glory in his holy name;

                        let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice!

            [4] Seek the LORD and his strength;

                        seek his presence continually!

            [5] Remember the wondrous works that he has done,

                        his miracles, and the judgments he uttered,

            [6] O offspring of Abraham, his servant,

                        children of Jacob, his chosen ones!

            [16] When he summoned a famine on the land

                        and broke all supply of bread,

            [17] he had sent a man ahead of them,

                        Joseph, who was sold as a slave.

            [18] His feet were hurt with fetters;

                        his neck was put in a collar of iron;

            [19] until what he had said came to pass,

                        the word of the LORD tested him.

            [20] The king sent and released him;

                        the ruler of the peoples set him free;

            [21] he made him lord of his house

                        and ruler of all his possessions,

            [22] to bind his princes at his pleasure

                        and to teach his elders wisdom.

            [45] …Praise the LORD! (ESV)

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 17

A Prayer of David.

[1] Hear a just cause, O LORD; attend to my cry! Give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit! [2] From your presence let my vindication come! Let your eyes behold the right!

[3] You have tried my heart, you have visited me by night, you have tested me, and you will find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress. [4] With regard to the works of man, by the word of your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent. [5] My steps have held fast to your paths; my feet have not slipped.

[6] I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me; hear my words. [7] Wondrously show your steadfast love, O Savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand.

[8] Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings, [9] from the wicked who do me violence, my deadly enemies who surround me.

[10] They close their hearts to pity; with their mouths they speak arrogantly. [11] They have now surrounded our steps; they set their eyes to cast us to the ground. [12] He is like a lion eager to tear, as a young lion lurking in ambush.

[13] Arise, O LORD! Confront him, subdue him! Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword, [14] from men by your hand, O LORD, from men of the world whose portion is in this life. You fill their womb with treasure; they are satisfied with children, and they leave their abundance to their infants.

[15] As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness. (ESV)

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 119:129-136

PE

[129] Your testimonies are wonderful; therefore my soul keeps them. [130] The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple. [131] I open my mouth and pant, because I long for your commandments. [132] Turn to me and be gracious to me, as is your way with those who love your name. [133] Keep steady my steps according to your promise, and let no iniquity get dominion over me. [134] Redeem me from man’s oppression, that I may keep your precepts. [135] Make your face shine upon your servant, and teach me your statutes. [136] My eyes shed streams of tears, because people do not keep your law. (ESV)

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 86

A Prayer of David.

[1] Incline your ear, O LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. [2] Preserve my life, for I am godly; save your servant, who trusts in you—you are my God. [3] Be gracious to me, O Lord, for to you do I cry all the day. [4] Gladden the soul of your servant, for to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. [5] For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you. [6] Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace. [7] In the day of my trouble I call upon you, for you answer me.

[8] There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours. [9] All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name. [10] For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God. [11] Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name. [12] I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever. [13] For great is your steadfast love toward me; you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

[14] O God, insolent men have risen up against me; a band of ruthless men seeks my life, and they do not set you before them. [15] But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. [16] Turn to me and be gracious to me; give your strength to your servant, and save the son of your maidservant. [17] Show me a sign of your favor, that those who hate me may see and be put to shame because you, LORD, have helped me and comforted me. (ESV)

Cardiphonia: Psalm 65

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 65

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. A Song.

[1] Praise is due to you, O God, in Zion, and to you shall vows be performed. [2] O you who hear prayer, to you shall all flesh come. [3] When iniquities prevail against me, you atone for our transgressions. [4] Blessed is the one you choose and bring near, to dwell in your courts! We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, the holiness of your temple!

[5] By awesome deeds you answer us with righteousness, O God of our salvation, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas; [6] the one who by his strength established the mountains, being girded with might; [7] who stills the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, the tumult of the peoples, [8] so that those who dwell at the ends of the earth are in awe at your signs. You make the going out of the morning and the evening to shout for joy.

[9] You visit the earth and water it; you greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; you provide their grain, for so you have prepared it. [10] You water its furrows abundantly, settling its ridges, softening it with showers, and blessing its growth. [11] You crown the year with your bounty; your wagon tracks overflow with abundance. [12] The pastures of the wilderness overflow, the hills gird themselves with joy, [13] the meadows clothe themselves with flocks, the valleys deck themselves with grain, they shout and sing together for joy. (ESV)

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 145

A Song of Praise. Of David.

[1] I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. [2] Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. [3] Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.

[4] One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. [5] On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. [6] They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness. [7] They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.

[8] The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. [9] The LORD is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.

[10] All your works shall give thanks to you, O LORD, and all your saints shall bless you! [11] They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power, [12] to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. [13] Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations.

[The LORD is faithful in all his words and kind in all his works.] [14] The LORD upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down. [15] The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. [16] You open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing. [17] The LORD is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works. [18] The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. [19] He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them. [20] The LORD preserves all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.

[21] My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD, and let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever. (ESV)
