Resurrection Presbyterian Church began in the Fall of 2016 when Matt Grimsley and his family and Danny Hindman (before he was married) moved to Madison with a call from the Wisconsin Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America to start a new gospel-centered church in downtown Madison, and to start a new campus ministry at The University of Wisconsin-Madison called Reformed University Fellowship. In a city of over 250,000 people and a campus of over 43,000 students that has historically been tough soil for the Christian faith, this was a strategic call to establish these works not only to engage Madisonians today with the gospel of Christ, but also to plant institutions that will outlive us and be the presence of Christ to our city for generations to come.

With the generous support of donors all over the country, they were able to move to the city, learn the city, love the city, and start inviting others to be a part of their mission. This church was birthed in the Grimsley’s living room around a shared meal, shared lives, and a shared vision for the city of Madison. Over the course of the first 14 months, we moved from vision meetings to a public Bible study to preview services and then to our public launch on October 1, 2017 meeting at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church on Regent Street.

Since then, we have grown in breadth and depth, moved around a few times during the pandemic, and recently ordained and installed our first elders on October 4, 2020, which is a huge milestone for a Presbyterian church. Though our mission is aimed at urban and university Madison, we welcome people from all over Madison. Though we are partnered with a campus ministry, we are not just a church for young people, but are seeking an intergenerational body of believers. We invite Christians who do not have a church home into a community that is seeking to faithfully love God, each other, and our city. We invite non-Christians to explore the claims of Christ in a fellowship of hospitality. As Christ has welcomed us, so we welcome you for the glory of God.
